SUMMARY:Healthcare During Connectivity Blackouts: Experiences of Providing Healthcare During Conflict From Tigray\, CAR and DR Congo
DESCRIPTION:About European Development Days 2022\nIn 2022\, the EDD will be a hybrid event. This means that it will take place both physically at the Brussels EXPO\, as well as online. \nThe theme this year is ‘Global Gateway: building sustainable partnerships for a connected world’. The programme of 90+ sessions is once again being co-created with the EDD community. \nAlongside the thematic sessions\, EDD 2022 will have a series of Special Events focusing on key aspects of the Global Gateway. Through those high-level sessions\, we will explore the geopolitical\, financial and geographical aspects of this year’s theme. Our expert panels will discuss the Global Gateway flagships’ impact in Africa\, Latin America\, Central Asia\, the Indo-Pacific and the EU Neighbourhood. \nIn addition to these Global Gateway sessions\, there will also be additional events on key topics such as resilient health systems\, and food security. \nAbout the Session\nThis session is organised by Research Advisors and Experts Europe together with the ICC Trust Fund for Victims (TFV). It considers the question of providing support to victims as reparations of Rome Statute Crimes. During situations of widespread crimes against humanity\, sexual violence and war crimes\, civilian victims may struggle to access adequate healthcare. If such situations are combined with widespread shut-downs of communications technology\, basic needs and aid\, how can barriers to assist victims of these crimes be overcome? This session will discuss experiences with such situations. \nThe session will hear from healthcare workers in Ayder Hospital in Northern Ethiopia (Tigray)\, the Central African Republic\, and in DR Congo who have faced such struggles\, as well as organisations trying to assist them. \nAbout the Session\nTo discuss the question of providing medical support to victims as reparations of Rome Statute Crimes under widespread internet shut-down. \nRegistration link: https://eudevdays.eu/community/profile \nModerator: Elien Spillebeen\, MO* \nFacilitators:\n\nDr Denis Mukwege (Foundation\, video message)\nDominique Vidal Plaza\, Dr Denis Mukwege Foundation\nBertin Bishikwabo\, ICC TFV\nAmanuel Haile\, Ayder Hospital (Hospital\, video message)\nPauline Kamau\, AFSC
